Benefits

The North Texas Food Bank strongly values its employees and their families. To show our company’s commitment to an employee-centric, family oriented culture, we provide all regular full time employees with a full benefits package. This benefit package is a very significant addition to your compensation and provides protection for you and your family.

Below is a summary of the benefits offered by the Food Bank. This summary provides a brief description of certain benefits and the terms under which to use them. A complete explanation of benefits will be given at the time of hire.

All benefits, except 403(b) which is effective immediately, become effective on the first of month after thirty days of continuous employment.

MEDICAL PLAN
The North Texas Food Bank participates in a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) program administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. Note: The Annual deductible for this plan is $1,000 per covered person per calendar year, not to exceed $3,000 for all covered persons in a family.

DENTAL PLAN
The North Texas Food Bank offers a dental plan through Dearborn National which has a national network to meet the needs of all Food Bank employees. Please inquire with Human Resources department for a detailed description of the services and levels of coverage.

VISION PLAN
In addition to the discount vision plan offered with the medical plan, employees can now opt for a more comprehensive plan with Spectera. Please inquire with Human Resources department for a detailed description of the services and levels of coverage.

LIFE AND AD&D
This insurance provides the employee with $25,000, $35,000 or 3 times his or her salary of coverage. Levels of coverage are based on position within the organization.

DEPENDENT GROUP TERM LIFE INSURANCE
Annual cost is $60 per family unit. Coverage amounts are: spouse-$10,000; each child-$5,000; infant child-$500. This coverage is discontinued when an employee terminates.

EMPLOYEE AND DEPENDENT VOLUNTARY TERM LIFE INSURANCE
Additional term life may be purchased in increments of $10,000 up to $500,000. New employees interested in purchasing this coverage will receive a guarantee issue of up to $70,000. Employees who request to purchase over $70,000 will be asked to complete a health history questionnaire. Please inquire with Human Resources department for a detailed summary of the benefit, as well as information showing the age-based rates for both the employee and his/her spouse.

SHORT-TERM DISABILITY (STD)
Short-Term disability provides 60% of weekly salary with a maximum weekly pay-out of $1,000. This benefit begins after 14 working days of a non-work related injury or illness and coverage may continue up to a maximum of 11 weeks. During the 14-day waiting period, the employee may be paid with their PTO hours accrued or unpaid if there is insufficient PTO available.

LONG-TERM DISABILITY (LTD)
Long-Term disability provides 60% of monthly salary with a maximum of $5,000 per month. This coverage begins after 3 months, when STD runs out.

FLEX SPENDING ACCOUNT (FSA) – AFLAC
A Flex Spending account allows employees to set aside a portion of his or her earnings to pay for qualified out of pocket expenses such as medical expenses and dependent care. FSA is used to pay for medical expenses not paid for by insurance; this usually means deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance for the employee's health plan, but may also include expenses not covered by the health plan, such as dental and vision expenses and over-the-counter drugs including a first aid kit.

PAID TIME OFF (PTO)
PTO allows flexibility and responsiveness to individual needs. This program allows employees to manage their own time off for vacation and occasional absences from the scheduled work day while protecting the employee's income. Employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week accrue a proportional share of PTO.  PTO accrues monthly and may be used after it is accrued.  PTO may be used for the following reasons: vacation; personal or family illness, including family and medical leave; observance of religious holidays; and military leave.

PAYROLL AND DIRECT DEPOSIT
Employees are paid every other week. Please inquire with Human Resources department for a current detailed pay period and holiday schedule. Employees may elect to have their paycheck directly deposited into their bank account.

RETIREMENT
403(b)
There is no waiting period; employees may participate immediately. Employees may contribute 1% to 50% of their salary up to a maximum of $15,000 annually. This money is immediately vested.

401(a)
Defined Contribution Pension Plan: The Food Bank contributes into each employee's 401(a) 5% of their bi-weekly salary regardless of whether the employee chooses to participate with his or her own money after 12 months of continuous employment. The vesting schedule is 20% after one year, 40% after two years, and 60% after three years, 80% after four years, and 100% after five years of employment. A vested year is reached after an employee is paid for 1,250 hours in a calendar year. There are 26 investment options ranging from conservative to aggressive. In addition, there are rollover provisions and loans are permitted under this plan. Certain other restrictions apply.

AFLAC
This voluntary benefit is paid 100% by the employee. AFLAC allows employees to participate in special group rates for additional medical insurances.

PREPAID LEGAL
With a Pre-Paid Legal plan, employees will have direct toll free access to a carefully selected Provider Law Firm for legal issues. With the Identity Theft Shield™, employees can rest assured knowing conspicuous activity on their credit report is being monitored.

EDUCATION BENEFITS
The North Texas Food Bank encourages employees to pursue professional development opportunities.

UNDERGRADUATE/GRADUATE PROGRAMS:
The Food Bank will reimburse employees who successfully complete educational programs which are part of a formal undergraduate degree program and are directly related to their jobs or the Food Bank's business activity.

We will provide reimbursement for both undergraduate and graduate level course work. For associates attending undergraduate classes, they are eligible to be reimbursed a maximum of $1,500 per calendar year. For those attending graduate level classes, the maximum is $2,500 per calendar year. The annual amount is pro-rated for those associates working less than full-time. Certain restrictions apply.

GENERAL TRAINING
Reimbursement for other training courses and associated travel may be provided when the course is directly related to his/her job or the company's business activity.

BONUS PLAN
The North Texas Food Bank's incentive plan is designed to encourage the achievement of company goals.  All employees are eligible for incentive pay. The criteria for bonuses ties in with specific achievements and behaviors and our ability to meet our fundraising initiatives.  

PAY RAISES
Employees are eligible to receive yearly salary increases based on performance. Employees eligible for merit increases will receive them at the beginning of the fiscal year.
